About a girl / Brian Percival http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBYl7O8WXd8
Mise en scene
Miserable town, dull clothing and run down, dark buildings, no real community. Lighting is really dark and grey reflecting the atmosphere of the area and the whole mood of the shot film.
Editing
The pace of the walking with the handheld camera when she is talking but then the slower paced shots such as by the canal and when she is dancing.
Shots
Long shots with silhouettes and hand held walking with the character. Lots of long shots encouraging the viewer to believe she is alone a lot of the time.
Narrative
For the majority of the film there is no story line, just a girl explaining her life story, her interests and her problems, but doesnt seem to be leading to anything. The last sentence she says is when we get a real narrative that the girl has thrown her dead baby in the canal. Although this happens right at the end and there is no hint towards this at all, it is very shocking and inspires the audience to think and reflect.
Representation
The main character is very good in that she basically tells you her characters personality, interests etc without having to show it visually or subtly, this builds up a clear image and understanding of her, which makes us feel more when we realise she has thrown her baby in the canal.
Sound
The use of her singing exaggerates how young she really is. And how she sings 'Innocent' by Britney Spears shows juxtaposition

I like the use of sound in this film, and the changes between handheld camera shots and non hand held. Also, I liked the use of silhouettes of her dancing and could use silhouettes with a sunset for my film trailer.
